Magpies Collaborate with Square Chapel in 250th Anniversary Arts Project

For the past few months, Magpies have been working on a unique art project to be displayed at Square Chapel Arts Centre in Halifax to commemorate their 250 years anniversary.

The artwork was inspired by characters representative of the era from which Square Chapel was built, 1772, and was unveiled at Square Chapel on Friday 25th November.

Together, our enabler Sue and a group of members worked on this project. They created the initial design, then drew around members to produce the characters, cut out their shapes, then we reinforced the cardboard with paper mâché and painted and decorated to establish the final pieces.

The artwork will be displayed at Square Chapel throughout December so pop down and have a look if you get chance.

The showcase event also featured a performance from our fantastic Magpie Movers, which you can watch here, as well as a stall selling some of the crafts we have been making.

We would like to thank Square Chapel for giving us the opportunity to display our artwork and helping us to put on a showcase event. We hope that their visitors enjoy looking at what we have created.
