Magpies is a charity that has been supporting adults with learning disabilities in Calderdale for nearly 30 years.

We pride ourselves on offering person-centred care and activities to all our members, to help them to grow and live more independent and fulfilling lives.

We are currently looking for exceptional people to join the team.

Outreach Enabler

About the role

  • Supporting people within the community on a 1:1 basis or in a group environment (eg Thursday/Saturday club or covering in day centre as required), delivering a range of activities to meet the members’ needs
  • This is primarily a lone working role
  • Supporting Members to access Community Opportunities (i.e. Walks / Parks / Employment/ Shopping/ Swimming, etc.)
  • To enable members to be independent in their own homes
  • Forming a positive, friendly and professional relationship with the people you support
  • Planning and delivering high-quality activities both in a group and a 1:1 setting
  • Completing paperwork and helping with support plans

Working Days and Hours: Various Days Available-based on needs of the business (zero-hour contract)

Monday to Sunday: on a rota basis between the hours of 7:00 am until 11:00 pm

Starting Salary: £13.19 rising to £13.80 per hour following’ probation.

About You

You will have:

  • Experience of working with people with Learning Disabilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Confidence to lone work in the community
  • Reliable and caring
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends
  • Ability to use own initiative
  • Enthusiastic approach to work
  • Ability to support Members with Moving and Handling, including using hoists, wheelchairs, and mobility aids.
  • Ability to work effectively with people who have learning disabilities including people who have personal care needs and behaviours that challenge
  • Willingness to learn and undertake training.

One of the things I enjoy most about working in care is how no day is the same. One day you can be doing arts and crafts with four of five people, the next day you could be running a sports group with fourteen people. It’s a very rewarding job as sometimes you can generally make a difference to someone’s life, especially if they are lonely at home. They can come into Magpies to socialise and gain new skills.
