Work Experience & Placements

Our vision is one of a society which values us all equally.

We help remove barriers to employment for the benefit of both people with learning disabilities and businesses.

Our members have the opportunity to carry out work experience and placements, helping them achieve their goals and increase their self-confidence.

Two magpies

Morrisons

While volunteering at Morrisons, members are supported by a member of staff to perform a range of duties such as managing the stock and keeping the shelves tidy.

Matalan

While volunteering at the Matalan store in Halifax, our members are responsible for dealing with new deliveries in the warehouse and keeping the shop floor organised.

Access Hospitality

Magpies is the Calderdale training partner of Access Hospitality. We are able to deliver the bespoke Access Hospitality training to our members to develop their skills to enable them to work within the hospitality sector.

On-site

We also offer work experience on-site at Magpies. This includes helping out in the kitchen as members can help prepare lunchtime meals. These meals are available for both our members and staff each day. They are also given the opportunity to achieve a qualification in food hygiene and offered support in finding further work experience in the hospitality sector.

“I like being able to get out the house and do different things. I get to meet people and do lots of different jobs to improve my confidence.”
